Prosopocoilus umhangi

38.00

  • A large Tanzanian Hornbill with massive fangs. These are used by males to fight over females that are half their size and have only tiny stunted tentacles. Interestingly, the scruff is a beautiful dark orange colour. The larva develops in a woody trouch, where it feeds on a symbiotic fungus that provides the larva with the necessary protein. Development can take several years.
