Hexarthrius deyrollei is a species of large stag beetle characterized by its distinctly massive, sickle-shaped mandibles and powerful body. It is a sought-after specimen in entomological collections due to its appearance and typical mandible position.
It inhabits humid tropical forests, often at altitudes between 300 and 1,200 meters above sea level.
It is particularly active during the rainy season, when adults seek out fermenting fruit and tree sap.
The larvae live in decaying wood, and their development takes 1–2 years. In the wild, it is mainly active at night or dusk.
It is named after the French entomologist H. M. Deyrolle – the species was first described in the 19th century.
